Frequently asked questions
Why don’t my DNS changes show up yet?
Resolvers cache records for the length of their TTL. Until a cached record expires, some resolvers keep returning the old value, so a change can take anywhere from a few minutes to the full TTL to appear everywhere.
What is the difference between A and AAAA records?
An A record maps a hostname to an IPv4 address, while an AAAA record maps it to an IPv6 address. Many sites publish both.
Can a hostname have a CNAME and other records?
No. A CNAME can’t coexist with other records for the same name, which is why a CNAME generally can’t be used at the zone apex (example.com). Some DNS providers offer ALIAS or flattened records to work around this.
