How to use Domain WHOIS Lookup

  1. Enter a domain such as example.com — you can also paste a full URL or an email address.
  2. Seorism finds the official registry for the domain’s extension and asks it for the registration record.
  3. Review the dates, status codes and nameservers, and expand the raw response for the full technical detail.

What it checks

  • Registrar and IANA registrar ID
  • Registration, expiry and last-updated dates
  • Domain status codes, explained in plain language
  • Authoritative nameservers
  • DNSSEC signing status
  • Registrant details, when the registry publishes them

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between WHOIS and RDAP?

Both report who a domain is registered with and its key dates. WHOIS is the original plain-text protocol; RDAP (Registration Data Access Protocol) is its standardised replacement, returning structured data over HTTPS. ICANN-accredited registries and registrars now provide RDAP, and Seorism uses it wherever a registry supports it.

Why are the owner’s details hidden?

Most registries and registrars redact personal information such as the registrant’s name, email address and phone number to comply with privacy laws like the GDPR, or because the owner uses a privacy service. Seorism shows registrant details only when the registry publishes them.

Does “No registration found” mean a domain is available?

Usually, but not always. Some registries hide reserved, premium or recently deleted names, so check with a registrar before relying on availability.

Why is my domain’s extension not supported?

A few country-code registries offer neither RDAP nor a public WHOIS service, and some offer only classic WHOIS, which Seorism can’t always reach. In those cases, use the registry’s own website.
